EXCEPTIONAL FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY JOHN FOX TWIGG, LONDON. CIRCA 1771-1775
Exceptionally rare and totally original John Fox Twigg Flintlock Duelling Pistols. These pistols stand above John and Joseph Mantons and also any other British Maker and define the very best in Duelling Pistols. Apart from been extremely rare they also have survived approx. 240 years in near perfect condition. I consider this to be a once in a life time opportunity to own the very best.
These pistols are approx. 240 years old and are in unmarked original condition, in an original lined Baize case. They still have the original mottled case hardened colour on the Locks and have 85% of the original Blue colour on the Trigger Guards. They have Gold Touch holes and also set triggers which is very rare on early pistols making it convincing that John Fox Twigg was the father of English Duelling Pistols. The Pistols have swamped barrels and a beautiful mottled Brown twist to them and are in perfect condition. The rich and highly figured Walnut Stocks have the rare and evident Carved Shell motif behind the breeches. Also they have the first variety of Acorn Finials on the trigger guards.
The pistols as entirely common of the Era and have at some stage in their History been returned to John Manton and Son for cleaning and service and thus have an Original John Manton and Son Trade label on the inside of the Lid. The original Irish baize lined case is in perfect condition for it's age. In the case is a set of original accoutrements including a leather pistols flint wallet with original flint's in it and an early of the era Leather lined flask
These Pistols are extremely rare more so than any other British Duelling Pistol maker and have been preserved in exceptional condition and have been in a collection for 40 years . They depict the Zenith of Duelling Pistols and are irreplaceable. This is the age where the British Duelling era with Flintlock Pistol's had begun.
